I am so glad to have “met” Ray, as we spoke over zoom. I’m very new to interviews and think my nerves show a little- but thankfully, Rays personality and obvious passion for music instantly put me at ease. BEST NEWCOMER AT UK COUNTRY MUSIC SPOTLIGHT AWARDS
I was both dead proud and surprised to have won the award for best newcomer at the UKCMSA’s this Saturday. I was up against supremely talented artists and whilst I’m always super confident that I’m making the best music I can, there’s some amazing successes each of us artists have managed over the year that honestly made me think the award would end up going to someone else. Mayah Herlihy was nominated and rightfully so, with three number one singles and high praise from none other than Billy Joel. Lisa T, apart from being an absolute sweetheart, is a powerhouse songwriter collaborating with some top names in the industry and herself grabbing a number one with Babydoll the same day I released Soul Food. And great friend Tara Henton, whom stormed the charts with two sublime singles near the end of the year. It’s fair to say the award could have gone to anyone of us, & I’m ever so grateful it was my name to have been read out. Please do check out Mayah, Lisa, and Tara’s music and a massive thank you to the organisers at Belles and Gals, and performers Vic Allen, Danny McMahon & Morganway for a wonderful night.
MAYDAY CALL PEAKS AT UK ITUNES #1
The third single Mayday Call has crept out into the world, and amazingly reached the number one spot in the country iTunes Charts. The song is the second single to peak at the top spot and incredibly hovered around the top 150 in the all genre chart. The song was a co-write with Tara Henton, with production once again by Adam Wright, with Jacob Sludden on drums and Paul Beddow on Bass.
Music Tells A Story
Ben Selleck is a singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from Essex. Vocally inspired by the soul legends of yesterday, Al Green and Marvin Gaye and lyrically inspired by the the likes of The Eagles, James Taylor, and Brothers Osborne, Ben has always had a love of music however, lockdown has rekindled his love of songwriting, specifically within the country music scene.
“The country genre has always been close to my heart and the UK scene, particularly during this pandemic, has inspired me creatively like never before. It led me to write an album worth of simple songs that tell stories about my life in ways I could never have portrayed as a younger man.”
Ben has been a music teacher since 2009, a job that he is incredibly proud of and enthusiastic about however, his goal is to build a solo career and release timeless music that will hopefully take him musical venture on the road.
